Audi confirm 2011 Q5 Hybrid
Audi has confirmed it will bring a Q5 hybrid model on the market in 2011, the mass of the vehicle from which the market's first hybrid of the German mark. Audi will offer a hybrid version of its premium SUV Q5 in the U.S. since late 2010, said Wolfgang Hatz, head of powertrain development for the Volkswagen Group.
If the car is a success in the U.S., Audi has said it might launch in Europe.
In an interview, said Hatz Audi offers a hybrid vehicle to compete with competitors that already offer this technology, like the Lexus RX 400h. The BMW X6 will be offered as a hybrid later this year, and Mercedes-Benz plans to launch a hybrid vehicle in each of its major S400 hybrid models this year.
Opinions are divided on whether Audi will use nickel metal hydride or lithium ion hybrid Q5. But more likely is that the powertrain will be similar to gasoline 3.0-liter V6 and 300 Nm electric assist motor used for the next 2011 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid Porsche Panamera hybrid in 2010 and 2010 VW Touareg Hybrid.
