Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor Corp. is in negotiations for the supply of Daimler AG with parts and technologies for hybrid vehicles, according to the Nikkei newspaper reported Thursday.
According to Japanese newspaper, the German company Daimler went to Toyota and try to use technology to the Japanese and basic components, including engines and batteries of hybrid vehicles.
The deal would make DaimlerChrysler, maker of Mercedes-Benz, the maker room to receive Toyota's hybrid technology, due to Nissan Motor Co., Ford Motor Co. and Mazda Motor Corp.
Sales of Daimler components to help increase the production of Toyota hybrid vehicles powered by gasoline and electricity, and therefore reduce costs, the Nikkei said.
Automakers also consider forming a broad alliance which also includes fuel cell vehicles.
Toyota, which has been concerned about the massive vehicle recalls earlier this year, has refused to confirm the reports, but acknowledged the interest in expanding their range of hybrid technology for automotive competitors.
Consumers and automakers around the world try to reduce costs by choosing hybrid and electric vehicles
